Lucky Tacky Website Launch Interview

To celebrate the website launch, We have interviewed Maddie, @luckytackyy for some insider info on the clothing brand!

Maddie | @luckytackyy | She/Her

"Hey! I’m Maddie, known online as luckytackyy! I make content online following my parenting life, stuff I diy and my favourite style - dualcora!"

"My clothing line is Lucky Tacky! The style of my clothing combines decora with gothic in a way that lets you be both at the same time, for super dynamic and bold look. There’s lots of variety to choose from that I worked super hard to design!"

Q: Do you consider yourself having ‘gone viral’ with your half n half look?

"Yeah! My first ever half and half outfit I diy'd went pretty viral, with 2.2 million views, and another notable video has 6.5 million which was like a lip sync video. I've been pretty blessed honestly, I've lots of videos of my style and they usually do really well!"

Q: How has this influx of followers affected you?

"Sometimes I get a bit stressed cus it's like woah, expectations - but mostly the more followers I get the more I feel psyched up and I wanna try my best to make fun stuff for people to watch! I'm really fortunate I've got supportive followers and I always appreciate the comments I get."

Q: How important is sustainability to you? Are there any ways you try to keep your clothing ethical?

"Finding a manufacturer that I trusted ethically was very important to me, but I'm very impressed with the standards of the one I have found and decided to work with for my brand. If any information arose about my manufacturer that compromised this trust in them, I would cut ties immediately and find another to partner with ASAP. It would be ANNOYING as hell to sort it all out finding a new manu haha but necessary.

Furthermore, as much as possible items will be made of cotton, as polyester is more damaging to the environment. This means that my items cost more, but this is important to me. There are cases where this isn't as easy e.g. flexible skirts need the stretchy polyester material for a snug fit I’d like to make soon but my focus will always be cotton as much as possible. Also, by using a 'made to order' method, we can reduce landfill waste and ensure only as much items as needed are made!"

Q: What has been the most difficult part of setting up a brand/clothing line?

"Definitely finding the time for it, with having 2 kids who are both super young, hyper, and a bit crazy caring for them takes up alllll my time. I wouldn't change it for the world but it can be super frustrating imagining how easy it would be if I had more time. The way it's been I'd maybe get 2-4 hours a week to plan, design, build the website, research, record content, edit etc. Which is not a lot so I'm always rushing to get it all done with my limited time and it stresses me out a lot."

Q; What are your goals for the clothing line?

"I think I have a lot of imposter syndrome so sometimes it's hard for me to imagine dreaming bigger than it is now. But if I try to look past that and think about it more, I would just love for it to grow bigger, and see people wearing it more! I'd love to improve my skills and make even better designs. I definitely hope I can start selling at cons and stuff soon,  I'd really enjoy that, but also because my oldest daughter really wants to come with me to see some five nights at freddy's cosplayers hahaha."

Q: Are there other collections/styles/products you’d like to release in the future?

"I ABSOLUTELY have to remake my own version of my first split outfit I diy'd!! I've been working on the design but I'm getting quite picky about it, but its getting there."

Q: Do you have any parting advice for anyone interested in making their own clothing?

"I’d say do a lot of research first, and if you’re feeling low on design inspiration a little Pinterest scroll always helps me! Communicate with your followers via stories to get feedback on designs, this is also really useful. Also looking to see how other creators designed their websites helped me a lot in the building process. Branch out to other social media if you haven’t already to maximize your reach and get the word out - I was really pleasantly surprised when I started my Youtube that it helped me find people who wanted to support my Kickstarter at the time because it’s very different to Instagram and Tiktok."
